Title: AI and the Moonshot for Mental Health

Abstract: Mental illness touches nearly every family, negatively affecting mood, behavior, and daily functioning. It can come with tremendous personal costs. Andrew will discuss mobile sensing technology for assessing, predicting, and intervening in depression and anxiety among college students. He will argue that mobile and AI technology are poised to radically transform how we diagnose, manage, and treat student mental health on college campuses—in essence, a moonshot for mental health.

Bio: Prof. Andrew T. Campbell is the Albert Bradley 1915 Third Century Professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth College. He is known for his pioneering work in mobile sensing and mental health. He received the ACM UbiComp 2024 10-Year Impact Award for the StudentLife study, which “pioneered the integration of mental health research with mobile data mining,” and the ACM SIGMOBILE 2019 Test of Time Paper Award for research that “pioneered the application of machine learning across local devices and servers.”
